In this example the file must be in public_html/example/Example/ But it all came to nothing more than a weird, cop-out plot where Callie got inconveniently hypnotized by the Octarians to play out a shell of the first game’s storyline with Marie, only to have their role stolen by a pink gremlin and a fabulous DJ who just as easily could have joined them to be Squid Sister 3.When you get a 404 error be sure to check the URL that you are attempting to use in your browser. This tells the server what resource it should attempt to request. We voted for Marie over Callie (woe unto us) in the grand finale of the Splatfests, and eagerly followed the news of Callie’s departure from the Squid Sisters. But the first game’s narrative was at least moderately interesting–enough so that Callie and Marie amassed an energetic following. These are not video games with compelling, tear-jerking storylines. Splatoon and Splatoon 2 are multiplayer shooters. It wouldn’t hurt, either, since the tracks from the first game are (in my opinion) far more hummable than the newer, softer pieces. It just seems bizarre to me that the entire story campaign of Splatoon 2 essentially hinges on the player having some knowledge of the first game–else why would anyone care about Callie being missing? Then, assuming you do invest the time to rescue her, there’s no payoff beyond “well, you cleared the campaign.” Why not work the Squid Sisters into the music rotation somehow, mixing in old Splatoon song favorites on stages with the game’s new music? Considering the new tracks are in a very different style than the first game’s, this would serve to add more variety to the music selection. Pearl and Marina don’t even seem aware of what transpired through the grate. They don’t appear to sing in any of the stages of Splatoon 2 they don’t come hang out in the Square. Marie continues to hang out in the campaign, but we don’t see Callie again. Sure.Īnd then, the Squid Sisters disappear. If you try to return to do the fight again, Callie puts the glasses on again…because they’re fashionable.

Marie shoots the glasses off her face halfway through the fight, and Callie can join her for a rehash of their signature song while you finish off Octavio in a severely muted repeat of his original fight. Marie leads the weak storyline of Splatoon 2 as she pursues her cousin, Callie, who has been hypnotized by Octavio in a quest to accomplish literally the exact same goals he had in the first game. His defeat felt like a meaningful accomplishment, and Callie and Marie were able to return triumphantly with you to Inkopolis for the remainder of the game.īut in Splatoon 2, Pearl and Marina never step outside of Inkopolis Square. It didn’t hurt that DJ Octavio was a far more formidable foe in the first Splatoon than he was in Splatoon 2, either. Their duet during the final battle against DJ Octavio gave the fight an additional level of excitement due to its plot implications, as well as being a fantastic piece of music in its own right. They were also Agents 1 and 2 of the Squidbeak Splatoon and played a vital role in the storyline. In the first Splatoon, Callie and Marie weren’t just the singing duo running the music business in Inkopolis Plaza. Nor does she deserve Callie and Marie, who received a compelling plotline in Splatoon and a less compelling one in Splatoon 2, but a plotline nonetheless. She doesn’t deserve Marina, who is a glorious goddess among sea creatures. Her dialogue with Marie frequently reveals that she’s the actual worst person to play online shooters with. Now that I’ve established my love for Marina, though, we need to talk about how she and Pearl, as a pair, are not as cool in Splatoon 2 as Callie and Marie are in Splatoon. We also need to talk about how Callie and Marie are not as cool in Splatoon 2 as they are in Splatoon. And it’s not their fault, at all. This Octarian ( because she totally is! are we really not going to talk about that in-game?) learned from the best and could tear it up with a solo career in a heartbeat. She is beautiful and pure and the best DJ in Inkopolis. I know what that said, and before I go on, I need you all to know that I basically worship Marina. Splatoon 2 leaves Callie and Marie aimless and alone in its storyline, while doing absolutely nothing to develop Off the Hook as a duo. By Rebekah Valentine 4 years ago Follow Tweet
